Introduction
For any inventory feed, we typically recommend using the vendor's policy for inventory tracking purposes. However, you may have a vendor that has a policy to "continue selling when out of stock" for example, and that might not align with your business model.
Disclaimer
The setting at the feed level regulates it for all variants included in it. It is extremely important that this setting is aligned with the variant's policy on all but one occasion: when you want to define the Inventory Policy per variant, you should disable "Sync Inventory Policy" altogether and set the policy in each of the variants under the main inventory section.
If you enable it and there's a mismatch between the variant and the feed setting (like choosing "Do not track inventory levels" in the feed but then selecting "Track and stop selling" in the variant), they will keep overriding each other and this may cause issues.
How to know what is the vendor's policy
Go to the vendor's inventory feed, click on a product title and scroll down until you see "Inventory policy":
You should see one of the following values:
- track: Track and stop selling when out of stock
- continue: Track and continue selling when out of stock
- ignore: Do not track inventory levels
- deny: Track and stop selling when out of stock
❗Deny and track mean the same and have been left in the UI for backward compatibility. This might help you figure out if your vendor's policy is causing any issues for your marketplace such as an item being sold even when it is out of stock, for example.
How to override the vendor's policy
You can go to the inventory feed's settings, on the top right corner, and choose a different option under "Inventory policy for the items":After this, you can "Save" and fetch the feed.
